We all love parties! A perfect combination of danceable music, good company, and a lot of fun! Whether you are throwing a chill friend gathering or a crazy house party, it is important to start thinking of the party arrangements ahead of time.
In order to make the most out of your party, it is important to set some rules to not forget anything and allow all the invitees to have fun in the smoothest way possible. We do not want anybody to call the fiesta off because of a lack of snacks or boring pre-drinking games…
That is why here we have collected information and arranged it into a list of important steps to take into account before throwing your party, to not forget anything and make it unforgettable!
1. What is the goal of the party?
What type of party are we talking about? And most importantly what do we want to transmit to our guests?
There are different themes a party can be about. It is recommendable to look at the type of gathering ahead of time in order to notify the invitees and arrange decorations and location accordingly. Try to visualize the venue and the mood you would like to trigger. What colors do you see? What vibe do you want to create? The answers to these questions will help you to have a clearer idea of what type of party you want to throw.
2. Set a budget
If money is not a problem for you, feel free to skip this passage. Otherwise, it is always wise to align with the guests or the party-throwers about the party budget in order to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Setting a budget would help you also in choosing the right decorations and type of food to order (which will be discussed in the next steps).
3. Find an adequate location
Depending on the party’s budget previously set, it is important to choose a venue that fulfills all the requirements and makes the guests feel comfortable. Whether the party is indoor or outdoor, cleanliness cannot be undervalued.
Having a spacious location will allow guests to move easier around the place, so make sure to remove all unnecessary objects from the chosen party spot, especially the expensive ones!
It is also fundamental to take into account if the party will be thrown during the day or during the night, in order to arrange the furniture accordingly.
4. Make a guest list
Not always the saying: “the more, the merrier”, is applicable. The amount of people to invite really depends on the kind of party you want to throw and the vibe you want to create. Especially if there will be alcoholic drinks involved, it will be difficult to manage every single guest and keep an eye on all activities.
Making a guest list and sending invites at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time, will allow the guests to organize themselves, and it will help the organizers get an idea of the number of participants based on the confirmations received from the sent invites.
5. Arrange food and drinks
Based on the number of participants, you can buy the right amount of food and drinks. If you are struggling to choose how much of each to buy, check out our latest blog on “How much food & drinks to buy for an in-house party?”.
The rule we advise you to keep in mind is: it is better to have abundance, rather than famine. This means trying to buy food and drinks for one or two more people than planned in order to not leave eventual unexpected guests hungry or thirsty.
6. Don’t forget the decorations
Decorations help create a mood or a theme at the party.
You can choose ahead of time to set a theme for the event, by communicating it to the invitees and decorating the venue accordingly. Otherwise, we suggest you keep it colorful and simple. To make it more playful, you can think of buying some small giveaways for the guests (like funny glasses or glow bracelets), but always make sure it is within the budget limit.
7. Create a targeted playlist
Music is very important, probably one of the most important things to consider for a party. Choosing the right type of music might change the whole development of the party. When choosing the music take into account the audience and their tastes in genres.
We suggest making a playlist with some songs that everyone knows, plus ask your invitees what kind of music, or specific songs do they like when partying so as to include them in the playlist.
Remember, if you see that the mood of the party is going down, try to change the music genre playing into a more danceable/singable one… You will immediately see the energy of the guests increasing!
8. Sound and lights
The sounding and lighting system help create an atmosphere in the party place. Too much light might blind people off while keeping it low and colorful is always a good option. In terms of sound instead, make sure to get one or multiple speakers which will connect to a fixed device (your phone or anyone’s pc), and play undisturbed all night.
On top of that, always make sure the neighbors are okay with loud music. It is often better to notify them ahead of time in order to avoid complaints.
9. Best drinking games
In order to set the mood, and get the guests started it might be wise to play some drinking games. There are different types of party games you can consider (see more also on our website), the important thing to keep in mind is to not exclude anyone and play to have fun.
Mad Party Games are specifically made to make your pre-drinking impactful, and your party unforgettable! The most popular drinking games to play are Mad Beer Pong, Mad Blox (the drinking version of the Jenga game), and Mad Wish (a game that includes all party games into one box).
9. Have fun!
The last but not least important point is to not forget to have fun! Although the organization of the party might not be the funniest part of it, do not forget to enjoy the process, and make the most out of it.
